HAGERSTOWN, MD - Business professionals in Washington County introduced themselves to the newly elected Representative of the 6th Congressional District, John Delaney.
"The first time you meet your elected representative it shouldn't be when you're asking for something," says Brien Poffenberger, Chamber of Commerce. "It's great to have him have an understanding of our community, so when he hears Hagerstown, when he hears Washington County, there's people that he thinks of, there's issues that he thinks of and he can sort of stir that into the mix."
Congressman John Delaney was just sworn into office last Thursday. A businessman himself, he believes government and local businesses should maintain a strong partnership.
"The government and the private sector should work well together because I think when they work well together, you get better outcomes," says Rep. John Delaney (D), Md. 6th District. "What I mean by that is better outcomes as in jobs, and the jobs have higher quality."
One of the Congressman's main offices will be in downtown Hagerstown. The other main office will be in Gaithersburg with smaller operations throughout the District.
Poffenberger says, "For a lot of people that are here in Hagerstown, this will be the first time they can shake his hand and look into his eyes."
Rep. Delaney says, "The best way for me to understand their needs is to deal with them the way people have always dealt with each other. It's great to get emails it's great to have phone calls but nothing replaces really showing up and meeting people."
This was Delaney's first visit back since the campaign season.
