No New Stadium?

HAGERSTOWN, MD - City Council Members again tackled the question of building a new stadium in the City.

Numerous locations are being explored.  Mayor David Gysberts suggested the old hospital site downtown.  However, other officials say that site doesn't appear to be a possibility.

The majority of the Council also agrees before any further action is taken, they must figure out how to pay for a project of this magnitude.

While many still want to keep the Suns in town, Councilman Lewis Metzner says they have the option to look at other Minor League teams.

Tony Dahbura, Hagerstown Suns, says, "People really need to do their homework. There are very few alternatives. The alternative to an affiliated team such as the Suns is an independent league."

Metzner also says he's more interested in investing in downtown revitalization, whether that be for a baseball stadium or for what appears to be Downtown Hagerstown's theme of education.

The Suns say they'll continue to work with City Officials in hopes of keeping the baseball team in town, but at a prior meeting the Suns gave a deadline for next baseball season.
