Frederick Gift Card Program Offers More Ways to Shop

FREDERICK, MD - People can now get gift cards to spend at more than 150 downtown Frederick shops.

The Downtown Frederick Partnership and the Tourism Council of Frederick County have teamed up for the Downtown Frederick Gift Card Program.

You can buy the cards at the Tourism Council in person at 151 S. East Street or by calling them at 301-600-2888. The cards come in denominations of $5 to $500.

In 2012, more than 2,270 cards have been sold for a total of $125,570.

The program is free to retailers, and it offers a way to buy cards for many mom-and-pop stores who don't offer them.

Those with the Downtown Frederick Partnership hope the program can boost the local economy.

"The Downtown Frederick Gift Card Program is similar to a gift card that might work at a shopping mall where you can only use that gift card at the mall, except in downtown Frederick, it's a shopping district where you're supporting exclusively local businesses and the local community," says Eli Roth, with the Downtown Frederick Partnership.
