CUMBERLAND, MD - With the Maryland State Legislative session being just weeks away, some state officials were in Allegany County speaking to residents on possible issues.

They say some of the topics include transportation issues across the state and reducing the state structural deficit.

Unfortunately, they're some unknowns.

Legislatures say it all depends on how the so-called Fiscal Cliff situation unravels.  If President Barack Obama and Congress can't agree on a plan to deal with the tax hikes and spending cuts, it means the state legislature will have to discuss implementing more taxes on the state level.

"We need to get that state structural deficit down to zero, so then that loosens up the money, instead of asking people for tax increases, which we have been doing for almost every year," says Senator George Edwards, Maryland State Senator.

The 2013 Legislative Session begins on January 9th in Annapolis.
