FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Housing Authority is providing some new incentives to help low-income residents purchase their own home.

Officials held a "Home for the Holidays" event Thursday at Vermont Court in Lucas Village to spread the word about the offer. They say people who wouldn't normally be able to afford a mortgage can now apply for a special loan.

The Hope VI Home Ownership Program is a second-mortgage program, where eligible applicants obtain a first mortgage to purchase a home based on family income, and Hope VI funds provide a second mortgage for the difference between the first mortgage and the sales price.

HACF says by working with community development organizations, local mortgage lenders, and local retailers they've made it possible for families to move from rental housing to affordable homes.

The houses available are in Hillcrest Commons, North Market Street, and on Sagner.

"This is one of eight home ownership units that's located on Vermont Court in Frederick, and it's a great opportunity for anyone looking for a good deal on a first time buyers opportunity," says Ann Ryan, Project Alive coordinator.
