Governor Earl Ray Tomblin says the fire destroyed a heavily traveled section of Interstate 77, but luckily no one was seriously injured.
"West Virginia Division of Highways, West Virginia Paving, American Asphalt, and many others worked through the night to repair and repave the fire damaged section of Interstate 77," says Gov. Tomblin. "I'm truly appreciative of their efforts."
Following a test of the lines by Columbia Gas, crews were able to reopen Interstate 77 northbound around 3:15 a.m. and southbound lanes around 8 a.m.
