Preparing for the Ski Season Ahead

PENNSYLVANIA - The white wonderland is a sight some people look forward to but last year that frosting didn't last for long.

"It wasn't a normal season," says Steve Martin of Liberty Mountain Resort. "I'm used to being on the snow 90 days but last year I got to spend about 60."

Martin says he's excited to hit the slopes after last year's shorter season. The warmer temperatures made it hard for snow to stick and some resorts didn't turn their blowers on because of it. But this year ski resorts are predicting the opposite.

"The forecast looks great and we are enthusiastic about what's ahead," says Anne Weimer, Liberty Mountain Resort.

Last year some of our area ski resorts opened at the end of December which is considered late. This year they're hoping to open soon but it all depends on mother nature.

Liberty Mountain Resort has their rental and retail shops prepared for customers and made snow on Wednesday. They're hoping to turn their blowers on again to cover the slopes with the right conditions.

"Not only do we need below freezing temperatures, we also need low humidity so we can make that nice powdery snow to ski on," says Weimer.
