HAGERSTOWN, MD - Court officials Friday announced a Washington County man will spend up to 65 years in prison after shooting a man to death.

They say Juan Sylvester Barnes, 29, was found guilty of shooting and killing Christopher Follett, 29, in January. It happened on the 300 Block of Jonathan Street. Police say Follett was shot in the head with a bullet from a .45 caliber handgun.

Barnes is convicted on five counts of second degree murder, reckless endangerment, use of firearms in a crime of violence, possessing a firearm after being disqualified from a previous conviction, and wearing/carrying a handgun.

The Washington County Clerks Office says Barnes was sentenced to 30 years for charges of second degree murder, 15 years for possessing a firearm, and 20 years for use of firearms in a crime of violence. They say the first five years out of 20 is served without parole.

Officials say Barnes is currently serving a previous sentence on a separate charge. He'll start the latest sentences immediately after.
