HAGERSTOWN, MD - Homes in the four-state-area already started turning on their Christmas decorations outside.
Hagerstown resident, Christopher Kelly, says he's been decking his lawn since he could walk.
"It's something that I've always gotten enjoyment out of," says Kelly. "Just driving home and seeing it myself it puts a smile on my face."
You'd be surprised how much money goes into his decor. This year, alone, $700. Kelly says he stakes his decorations down because it helps prevent theft.
His house glitters a total of 35,000 lights and flaunts displays kids will easily recognize like Santa on the roof.
"You basically have to add and you know fix whatever was broken from the year before and replacing that can become costly," says Kelly. "The bigger the display gets the more it costs every year."
And each night Kelly says his timer is set to 10 p.m. so his lights will stay on until about that time. He also sees a hike on his electric bill.
"It averages throughout the year but it used to be that it goes up about $100 more in November and December," says Kelly, "which is something I expect with having a Christmas display."
It's a hobby both costly and time consuming, but Kelly says it's worth the effort every time he drives home.
