Hometown Hero: Veteran Wayne Taylor

WHAG - Every Wednesday, WHAG and Soldier Fit honor a service member or veteran in our community. This week's hometown hero is Veteran Wayne Taylor.
"I have never seen such dedication to community with any one person, as I have with him," says Jim Holsinger, who nominated Taylor.
Holsinger says Taylor is known as a man who lived a life of service.
"There are times, even now, 17 years from our initial meeting, that I will still hear him talk about something new of different that I hadn't heard he was involved with," says Holsinger. "it never seems to stop."
"I try to stay active," says Taylor. "If I didn't, I know I'd fall apart."
A veteran himself, Taylor has devoted much of the past 20 years to service men and women. He joined the military in 1959 and rose through the ranks.
"That was quite a honor," says Taylor. "When I was a kid and first went into the air force as the lowest rank there was, I never thought I would end up Colonel."
Taylor says he never knew his volunteer work now, would be his highest honor.
"I've been retired almost 19 years, and all I've done is volunteer work," says Taylor. " I haven't worked for money for anything."
Holsinger says Taylor's character and sense of humor are stellar.
"It's just a fantastic experience to have him as a friend," says Holsinger. "I'm proud to have him as my friend."
Taylor says at 80 years old he's still learning some valuable life lessons.
"Made me realize how fortunate I am when I see a lot of people less fortunate. That certainly is a motivator to keep me going," says Taylor.
