"There was an equipment malfunction underground," says Twila Carr of the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Program. "So when the tanker truck was filling the tanks they had an overflow problem. The petroleum went underneath the ground and went directly into Warm Springs Run."
Local crews built dams on Monday downstream to contain the gas.
Carr says the clean up was done quickly enough that the contamination did not spread as far as the U.S. Silica Plant.
"Everything was taken care of very quickly and it could not have gone more smoothly as far as any type of environmental hazard," says Carr.
Carr says the problems underground have been taken care of, and the Sheetz Convenience Store is back to normal.
