HAGERSTOWN, MD- The name of the victim who died after he was severely burned in an accident Sunday night has been released.

Norman Frazier was 25-years-old. He suffered burns to 90 percent of his body after he was pulled out of his car.

Officials with the Washington County Sheriff's Department say a deputy had pulled Frazier over for speeding; then he decided to flee the scene.

Officials say he was speeding and driving recklessly and it took deputies a while to catch up with him.

Bystanders say they saw the car hit another vehicle and then strike a utility pole. They say the impact caused the engine to fall out of the car.

The four people in the other car were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The road was shut down for several hours. The deputy that was on the scene is being provided with a crisis counselor, a standard protocol for events this traumatic.

"Passerby's and the deputy were able to pull Mr. Frazier from his vehicle and put the fire out that was on him and was transported to Meritus Medical Center for his treatment and later flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma."

It's still not clear why he drove away from the traffic stop. Frazier has a lengthy criminal record dating dating back to 2004.

The reconstruction of the accident can take up two weeks to complete.

He made a bad choice that night to break the law again, a multiple felon who chose to endanger other people with his driving. I'm just glad that he didn't hurt or kill anyone else. Naturallly, his friends would come to his defense. It makes one wonder about the class of people that think it's ok to run from the law and put others in danger.

The guy was clearly a career criminal. His death has saved the taxpayers what would have been millions of dollars in legal and incarceration costs. Not to mention the probable loss of life and property. It's lucky he didn't kill anyone but himself.

I don't see anyone here who is saying it was OK for this man to "hurt others" What happened was tragic, and his friends are allowed to mourn their friend regardless of his background. Amazing how quickly forget we are all human the moment someone takes a wrong turn in life. Allow his friends to grieve in peace without your holier than thou comments.

Amazing how this man's friends think it was fine for him to hurt others because he likes to defy the law. How is it these people cannot recognize that people who commit crimes and hurt others are just not good and do not deserve respect?

Yeah he made mistakes his maybe alittle worse than others but your a cold person to say something as cruel and insensitive so say something like that. He was a very good friend of mine and im furious that someone would even say that a man that burns to death needs to go to hell, he was a very kind and nice person and i hope you burn in hell for the insensitive [censored] comment you just typed because no one deserves to burn alive so rot in hell!!!!

David W. November 12, 2012 at 7:33 pm

He was not a victim. He was the cause of the crash and he hurt innocent people. Hecwas a career criminal and his burns are only a minor part of his eternity on Hell most likely.
