Gysberts Wins Hagerstown Mayor; Bruchey Concedes

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Democrat David Gysberts, a school counselor and member of the city's Planning Commission, has unseated Hagerstown Mayor Bob Bruchey.

Bruchey, conceding in an interview with WHAG, congratulated Gysberts and promised to help him transition into the office.

Gysberts, a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, is a school counselor at Poolesville High School in Montgomery County where he leads the Independent Studies Program. 

Bruchey was elected as Mayor in 1997, appointed to fill a vacancy in 2006, and elected in 2009. During his first term, Bruchey worked closely with the state, county, and business community to bring the University of Maryland Education Center to downtown Hagerstown.
