Severe Flooding Continues to Spread

By: Bejoy Joseph
Updated: October 30, 2012
BERKELEY COUNTY, WV-Parts of the Opequon Creek area in Berkeley County continued to flood on Tuesday.

Emergency Services requests residents to stay away from the flooded areas.  Members of the West Virginia Army National Guard were advising people to evacuate and try to stay clear of the flooded roadways.  Evacuations started on Monday night and about 80 residents were evacuated from their homes.  Officials expected the creek to crest at 15 feet above normal water level and they're hoping residents could return home very soon.

"We are just making sure that people were not on the roads where it is dangerous, making sure that people who were evacuated are not there.  If they had to come back, we are making sure they are okay and if they are in distress, we going to help them out." says Sgt. Thomas Grochowski WV Army National Guard.

Officials say if any Berkeley County residents need help, please contact Berkeley County Emergency Management office.
