High Wind Warnings & Flood Watches Issued In Anticipation of Hurricane Sandy

By: Bryan Tolle, Meteorologist
Updated: October 29, 2012
HAGERSTOWN, MD - We're bracing for the impacts of Hurricane Sandy as she is forecast to have near hurricane force winds as she makes landfall sometime Monday or Early Tuesday, and the National Weather Service has issued more advisories for the types of weather we are forecasting with Sandy's arrival.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the High Wind Watch to a HIGH WIND WARNING for the entire area, except Garrett County, MD (but we think that will be upgraded sometime today to a High Wind Warning) for the potential of High Winds.

We're forecasting sustained winds of 35-45 MPH with gusts as high as 60 MPH.

The National Weather Service is continuing the FLOOD WATCH for the highlighted counties as we are expecting 3 to 6 inches of rainfall from this event with locally higher amounts possible. Flooding could become a concern especially Monday into Tuesday..

The National Weather Service has also issued a WINTER STORM WATCH for Garrett, Western Grant and Western Mineral Counties in anticipation of Sandy's arrival.  At least 6 inches of snow could be possible during the period.
