Students can get a jump start on college by getting college credits during high-school.
"One of the benefits is it allows students to take rigorous course work in high-school so they can be more prepared for colleges and when they get to college it won't be so demanding or they'll be at least used to expectations of them," says the coordinator of testing and accountability, Deborah Gilmartin.
"Another important aspect of taking the exams is for students who actually score three or higher. They could potentially get college credit for those courses, adds Gilmartin."
School officials say more students are taking rigorous AP course work and benefiting from higher scores.
