WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD - Washington County elementary students had a chance to learn about where their food comes from.

Students were taken to the weekly farmers market over at the Meritus Medical Center.

Students were broken up into three groups and shown different aspects of healthy eating.

Members of the school and the Meritus Medical Center believe it's important to teach children at a young age about the food they eat as well as where their food comes from.

They say this kind of education leads to healthier decisions in their future.

"Its all part of the healthy eating, and studies have shown that when kids recognize their food and recognize where it comes from and take a part in growing and harvesting food that they eat healthier," says Jeff Proulx, Supervisor of Nutrition Services.

The farmer's market takes place every Tuesday in the Meritus Medical Center
