FREDERICK, MD - It's been 150 years since the Civil War, and some people can still feel the presence of solders.
It's never a typical day for the people who work at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.
"All of a sudden I'd be working, typing away, and there it would go, the paper clips would just fly across the room," said April Dietrich, who works at the museum.
Dietrich often works late at night by herself but says it never sounds like she's alone.
"We have doors opening and closing, people walking up and down the halls," Dietrich said. "I can hear conversations. I hear computer noises, everything that would sound like a regular day at the office I can hear at night."
Almost every person who works at the museum has seen a ghost from the past. They come in all shapes and sizes.
"Behind me is a refurbished door bell that is not connected anyway to any aspect of the front door or anything. It cannot go off by itself, yet one morning when I was here it did. It went off around 7 o'clock one morning when I was in the building all by myself," said Karen Thomassen, the museum's deputy director.
Some visitors also had strange experiences at the museum, which was used to embalm more than 10,000 soldiers during the Civil War.
"All of a sudden the lights just dimmed and went out for a few minutes, and when I walked back into that area, it turned on again," said Sharon Bertrand, a museum visitor.
Those with Maryland Ghost Tours call the museum the most haunted building in Frederick.
"We like to consider Frederick the most haunted city in the State of Maryland. We're well over 267 years old. We have countless stately and historic homes and a Civil War battlefield in the past that was at times very turbulent." said Ron Anglesberger, co-owner of Maryland Ghost Tours.WHAG captured something out of the ordinary while our cameras were rolling. The lights in a display gradually went off and then back on, and museum staff say that's not supposed to happen.
Workers say they know how to deal with the ghosts.
"If they start making too much noise, you tell them to calm it down, and they usually do," Dietrich said.
Employees say they see one ghost each morning. In fact, they say the ghosts usually greet them in the hallways!
