WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD - A group of disabled veterans is launching an effort to help other wounded soldiers.

The Washington County Chapter of Disabled American Veterans is encouraging local vets to join the organization. There has been an increase in wounded veterans after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Members say the organization can help vets adjust to every day life.

Jerry Barnhart joined after attending his first event.

"I thought, 'My gosh what a chapter,'" Barnhart said.

"These guys do nothing but support the veterans and I said I want to be a part of this," he said.

The group meets at the American Legion in Funkstown.  You can get information by calling (301) 842-2562 or by clicking here.
