FREDERICK, MD - The Great Frederick Fair is kicking off at the Frederick Fairgrounds for its 150th year.

To celebrate its 150 years, there are new rides at the Carnival Midway, plus hundreds of exhibits and vendors

"Here this year I believe there's about 48 rides that we have here," says general manager Becky Brashear. "Just a lot of activities, hands-on for kids really to participate in, our City Streets, Country Roads exhibit, always a huge area for families to gather."

City Streets, Country Roads drew 40,000 fair-goers last year, with lots of farm animals, wagon parades and this year, new exhibits celebrating Frederick's history and heritage.

"I think a lot of the fair-goers come to see the animals and what the 4-Hers have accomplished, " says 4-H superintendent Laura Ramsberg. "They love it because they have worked hard all year with their animals, they kind of get together at the fair and they're like a big family."

4H shows are happening throughout the fair, as well as harness racing,  a demolition derby, and even a birthing center, where fair-goers can see baby animals coming into the world.

The fair is holding a canned food drive called "Fill the Wheel" to help out local food banks, and they're asking everyone who can to donate some food.
