WINCHESTER, VA- Virginia health officials have confirmed that the first death from the West Nile Virus in the state occurred in the Northwest Region.

The Northwest Region includes: the City of Winchester, Frederick, Clarke, Page and Warren counties among others. Virginia health officials say there is no public health reason to release more details about where the victim was from, because mosquitos that travel with the virus are active in all parts of the state. This is the first death of Virginia's nine reported West Nile cases, four have been in the Northwest Region.
