MIDDLETOWN, MD-Golfing in memory of a fallen Frederick soldier.  family, Friends and marines were on the course today, playing to honor a local hero and raise money for good causes.

They gathered and teed off in the 3rd Annual Sergeant David J. Smith Golf Tournament in Middletown. This is part of an effort to raising money for the David Smith Memorial Fund, to help the Wounded Warrior Project and the Semper Fi Fund.  Back in January of 2010, Sergeant Smith was killed by a suicide bomber, while on patrol in Afghanistan.  Loved ones say his legacy will last forever.

"He did a lot to help others, he enjoyed people, and enjoyed being around the community.  I could keep on going on and on.  He was just a wonderful young man," says Mary Jane McWilliams, Mother of Sergeant Smith's Mother.
