WINCHESTER, VA- The Apple Blossom Mall has been the place to go for the latest trends and fashions. Now, it's finally getting a makeover of its own.

"This year is the mall's 30th anniversary, so what a better time to renovate the mall," says Larry Nelson, Marketing Director for the Apple Blossom Mall. "We're excited about getting a renovation. It really is a major facelift from one end of the mall to the other, from top to bottom," he adds.

Everything from the outside signs to the indoor fixtures will be lighter, brighter and more modern.

"We're going to be improving the floors, the ceilings, the entrances," Nelson says. "We're adding a whole suite of restrooms at the food court, which is going to be fantastic for our shoppers."

One of the biggest additions will be a new Carmike movie theater. It will feature 12 theaters, with rocking chair seating and wall-to-wall digital screens, known as, "Big D."

"It might save people from going to the other theater," says Daniel Bowser, a longtime shopper. "Because, I used to come here, now I go to both," he adds.

"It'll be a nicer environment for us," says Madison Potee, a teenage shopper. "We'll have more things to do than just sit around," she adds.

When renovations are complete, it will have more sitting areas, with leather and soft seating. The floors will be mostly tile, with carpeted sitting sections throughout the mall. It will also feature a new play area for children.

"We certainly feel that a renovation of this magnitude is going to make people feel good about coming to the mall," Nelson says. "Maybe, keep shoppers local with a more modern mall that they can enjoy."

Nelson says the construction work is done at night, so stores do not have to close during the day. The mall renovation project is scheduled to be complete by Black Friday. The movie theater is set to open in the Spring of  2013.
