Deck Tearout

By: Amanda Campbell
Updated: August 12, 2010
If you are thinking of tearing out an old deck, it can be a do-it-yourself project. But, depending on the size and complications, it might be best to hire professionals to handle the project. If you decide to take on the project on your own, the only tools you will need are a hammer, pry bars, a circular saw and a reciprocating saw. It’s a good idea to use work gloves and a pair of safety glasses.

The job is quite easy, just remember to start from the top down. Here’s a tip: Be sure to hammer over any exposed nails for safety concerns. If you find water or insect damage we recommend contacting a local contractor for further advice.
