At 83 years of age, Ernest Snodderly, also known as "Bub," believes you can never be to old to give back.

"I don't know of a time that I wasn't willing to help somebody," said Snodderly.

For a decade he has volunteered at the Potomac Center in Hagerstown as a one of a kind repairman.

"Bub" maintains and repairs the wheelchairs for those who stay at the center.

"I think I have 23 chairs now that I take care of," he said.

"The Potomac Center serves 54-55 developmentally disabled folks," says Brent Saunders with the Potomac Center.  "Many are very profoundly retarded medically."

The position was advertised as a paying job, but Bub didn't want to collect a pay check.

If we didn't have Bub I don't know what we would do," says Saunders.  "It would cost us a lot of money and in this day and age with budget cuts and fewer resources, Bud is an invaluable resource for us."

He's logged over 1300 hours and comes in twice a week or more to make sure nobody goes without their source of transportation.

He says the years have slowed him down, so now he pushes his 30 pound bag of tools on his walker, instead of carrying it over his shoulder

Bub's limited mobility isn't stopping him from making sure those at the Potomac Center are able to get around.

"It's worth the time," he says.  "If not me, who else."
