Huff Pleads Not Guilty

By: Import User
Updated: October 9, 2006
Forty-six year old Stephen Huff was driving along Little Cove Road last August when he claims to have lost control of his car, killing his wife. Police said alcohol was to blame. Stephen Huff waived his right for an arraignment and plead not guilty to vehicular homicide. In a police affidavit, Huff said he was driving his wife and his four year old granddaughter southbound along Route 456 when a deer darted out in front of the car and caused him to lose control. He said he was unable to regain control before striking a tree. State Police said they did not observe any evidence of a deer in or near the crash scene. They also observed numerous bottles of Corona Beer scattered through the scene. Huffs wife was declared dead at the scene. He is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child for having his granddaughter in the car. Jury selection for the case will take place in November.
