Frederick Residents Concerned over Stinky Smell Coming from Carroll Creek

By: Import User
Updated: February 6, 2007
It took three decades and four administrations to get the Carroll Creek construction project underway, but now city officials are looking into how to improve the smell of the creek. Water flow problems in the creek are causing stagnant water and a stench residents can smell from far away. Mayor Jeff Holtzinger said the city is trying to get a permit to clean out part of the creek, which could help the water flow. Meanwhile, folks who work near the park said the heat isnt helping with the smell. "Its pretty foul. Youre walking by and it kind of disturbs everything around you. Youre walking down the street and you can smell it from a block away, sometimes when its really hot. Its filthy," said Christina Jorro who works nearby. Holtzinger told NBC25 the city will address additional ways to fix the creeks stench if cleaning out one channel isnt enough.
