Oppressive Heat: Temps to Top Near 100

By: Import User
Updated: October 9, 2006
The National Weather Service Offices have issued a Heat Advisory for most of the Four-State Region now until 9 p.m. on Monday except for far western Maryland, the Potomac Piedmont, and the Shenandoah Valley. Southern PA Counties of Fulton, Bedford, Franklin, and Adams County have a heat advisory until 6 p.m. on Monday. A combination of temperatures near 100 degrees and relatively high humidity will produce heat indices in the low 100s on Monday. The Weather Service Office issues a heat advisory when the heat indices indicated are expected for at least two hours in the afternoon. Temperatures will be within about two degrees of the record high of 100 in Hagerstown on Monday. Many of the deeper valleys will have heat indices above 100 degrees. Dangerously hot weather is forecast once again on Tuesday. However, a few clouds later in the day from a weak cool front in the Upper Great Lakes may put a pinch on the high temperatures. The humidity will continue to be high most of the week with Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday being slightly more bearable. The Current Air Quality outlook for Monday and Tuesday now puts Frederick County, MD and Loudoun County, VA in the unhealthy group, while the rest of the Four-State Region is still in the moderate category. Those with respiratory problems or heart ailments are urged to limit outdoor activity significantly in Frederick and Loudoun Counties. If you have to be outside during the peak heating hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., you are advised to take plenty of breaks, wear light colored clothing, and drink plenty of fluids. Be sure to check on pets and the elderly and never leave a child inside the car unattended. Temperatures can reach well past 120 degrees inside the vehicle. Continue to stay tuned to NBC25.com and NBC25 for further updates and for any addtional heat related weather advisories that are issued.
