breaking news
Many people havent been able to cook meals or take showers.
The problem is more widespread than first thought. Mountaineer Gas said at least 3400 customers have been affected. This means restaurants cant cook and dont have hot water to wash dishes.
Its a frustrating problem for both customers and business owners. Its leaving many restaurant owners waiting and wondering.
Business including the Texas Steakhouse and Saloon closed for two days in a row.
Many potential customers are turned away by staff or simply by a sign. Meanwhile, those staying at hotels are finding out theyre going to be taking cold showers.
"They actually had a note on the registration desk that I just happened to read and see that we wouldnt be able to take a shower tonight, so thats not good," said Joe Whittacker, whos looking for a hot meal and shower.
Meanwhile, some business are able to stay open but serving a limited menu. The Asian Garden is serving up sushi, but no food that requires cooking. They have lost some customers who desired dishes like teriyaki or tempura but the Japanese restaurant has actually gotten some new clientele from the whole ordeal.
"Other restaurants are not open, so they come in and try the food. The customers like it, because its the best food!" said John Lu, owner of the Asian Garden in Martinsburg.
Gas company officials said they are restoring service to critical customers first, including the restaurants.
Mountaineer Gas crews have already gone to each home and business affected, turned off the gas line.
They are returning to each of those locations to turn it back on and conduct a safety check.
The problem was with a regulator station. Crews will investigate after concentrating on restoring service.
