The accident happened just after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
The man who crashed the hang glider is 63-year-old Steve Kinsley.
Witnesses said he was preparing to fly off a cliff Wednesday afternoon when wind gusts suddenly knocked him over.
Three fire companies were called out to the scene; Leitersburg, Smithsburg, and Blue Ridge Summmit. It took about 20 minutes for workers to reach kinsley. He was flown by Maryland State Police to Washington County Hospital just after 4 p.m.
Witnesses said he was conscious immediately following the crash. After going to Washington County, he was later taken to a medical center in washington D.C.
He is listed in fair condition. A friend said he was an experienced hang glider.
