WASHINGTON, D.C.- It was a celebration in which the spotlight was on music education.

The Shepherdstown Middle School Jazz Band gave a live performance honoring two Senators who are working to rebuild music education programs.

Senator Joe Manchin and Senator Jay Rockefeller both expressed a deep commitment to supporting kids and their access to music education.

"I'm very honored by that but my greatest thrill is being with those young people of Shepherdstown Middle School," says Rockefeller.

Shepherdstown Middle School is one of 35 schools representing 30 counties in West Virginia who are benefiting from the initiative. VH1's Save the Music Foundation has played a critical role by providing musical instruments.

The foundation has committed to expanding the initiative to the remaining 25 counties in West Virginia over the next few years.
