MARTINSBURG, WV Most of the time
one would strive to be number one. However, West
Virginia won't be celebrating their new ranking as the
fattest state in the nation, according to the latest Gallup-Healthways
Well-Being Index.
According to the poll Pennsylvania came in 16th in obesity rates, while Maryland showed up 23rd and Virginia 28th.
As soon as the results were released many mountain state residents say they had
heard about it. Some were not surprised by the results.
"I recently went to Colorado and the way people are out there they are extremely
healthy. The way they dress, people you see are in their gym clothes, walking
around with their kids and families and you can just tell the difference
between here and there," says Josh Gay, fitness trainer of
Anytime Fitness.
As it turns out Colorado ranked as the healthiest state.
In order to battle obesity health
experts say it starts with the choices you make from exercising to what you
eat.
The survey was based on telephone conversations
held with random citizens on health, smoking, eating and exercise habits.
