WINCHESTER, VA- The parenting program sponsored by the Winchester Department of Social Services begins March 7th.
The Fatherhood Program is now in its third season. This year the department will be adding a motherhood program called "Mothers Together."
The 12-week programs aim to support parents by enhancing family and relationship skills, financial stability, job search assistance and stress management.
The department will provide childcare, food and transportation for parents.
"We're telling the fathers how to communicate better and talk about their side of the relationship," says Karen Farrell, a family services specialist with the Department of Social Services. "We thought if they're working on their side of the relationship, it would be really nice to have the mothers also work on their side."
The parenting sessions will take place every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the War Memorial Building in Jim Barnett Park.
