Youths Charged For Detonating "Soda Bottle Bombs"

By: Ciara Brown
Updated: February 26, 2013
ALLEGANY COUNTY, MD- The Office of the State Fire Marshal says two 15-year-old Flintstone boys were taken into custody after detonating improvised explosive devices, "soda bottle bombs" in the front yard of their family home.

It happened around 7:50 p.m. on Monday in the 21000 block of National Pike in Flintstone, Md.

The department of Natural Resources say they responded to reports of gun fire in the area and found remains of exploded soda bottles on the property.

The office of the State Fire Marshal says through their investigation they found out the boys had learned how to make the devices on the internet.

The two teens face felony charges of manufacture, possession, and distribution of destructive devices. They were released to the custody of their parents, pending further legal action.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

Comments

What is criminal is charging these kids as if they were criminals. Those aren't "destructive devices"--they're noise makers. Sounds to me like the police are wasting their time going after harmless children rather than actual threats. Guess it's safer and easier.
