PENNSYLVANIA- Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a three-vehicle crash on I-83 killed one man and sent two others to the hospital.

Police say it happened northbound near mile marker 22, Manchester Twp, York Co.

Police say a bed mattress had fallen off of a vehicle and landed in the right hand lane. They say that's when two service trucks from S&W Petroleum both began to stop due to the mattress in the roadway.

Police say a tractor trailer behind the two vehicles did not realize they were coming to a stop and rear-ended the second service truck, smashing it into the rear of the first service truck, causing a huge fire.

The driver of the second service truck, Brian Jacobs, 46, of Dillsburg, was killed. Police say at this point it is unknown whether the driver died from the impact or the fire.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Michael Grandmaison, 51, of Maine, was taken to York Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the first service truck, Gordon Myers, 64, of Lewisberry, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the vehicle who had the mattress fall onto the road did stop and is cooperating with the investigation.
