FREDERICK COUNTY, MD - A Mt. Airy woman and her fiance went to bed Tuesday night not knowing they would wake up millionaires.
Maryland Lottery Officials say the $26 million top tier Mega Millions ticket was claimed Thursday by a grandmother-of-two who chose to remain anonymous.
The 48-year-old retiree told Lottery Officials she plans to buy a beach house, or two.
The lucky winner matched all five numbers, plus the Mega Ball. After choosing the cash option, she will take home $12.6 million after taxes.
The winning ticket was purchased at Mt. Airy Shell, located at 649 Lakeview Drive. For selling the winning ticket, the retailer will receive a $26,000 commission.
This is the first Mega Millions jackpot win in Maryland since three public employees shared the $218.6 million portion of the record-breaking $656 million jackpot in March 2012.
The ticket is currently the sixth largest Lottery win in western Maryland since 2013 began.
