HAGERSTOWN, MD - James Hare was a son, a brother and a soldier sent overseas to Korea in 1949.
Two years later his family received a letter saying he had died in a prisoner of war camp. Little did they know how long it would take for Hare's body to be found.
Ever since the Purple Heart soldier died in 1951, Stanley Hare says the family received no word about his brother.
Decades passed until 2012 when a U.S. Official contacted Stanley by phone.
Stanley says getting the call was beyond belief. Stanley says when he realized his long lost brother had finally been found, identified through DNA, he says his feelings were unexplainable.
"I can't explain the feeling to finally know this is real. I actually started shaking because I thought, could this really be true?" says Stanley.
His family says after 63 years, they are happy to have James back in the United States.
"When realizing that he learned his brother's bones were found, I was utterly amazed and rejoiced with him over this matter," says Pastor Jay Fretz.
"It's great we can have him in the United States from a foreign land where we knew nothing about him, it's great," says Stanley.
