Explosive Device Set Off Near Fort Hill High School

CUMBERLAND,MD - A 17-year old boy is now in police custody after setting off an explosive device near Fort Hill High School.
It happened around 7:40 a.m. and luckily, a deputy was already at the high school for an unrelated incident.
Police say the deputy saw the student throw something in the air which exploded when it landed. The name of the teen is not being released.
However, police are concerned because the boy brought the device with him on the bus. Deputies say the explosive was homemade and they are still investigating to find out why the boy brought the device to school.
The teen is scheduled an appearance in court and the school issued a release information parents about the incident.
