Local Christians Attending Ash Wednesday Church Services

Many of them attended churches, including Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.
They received ashes on their foreheads marking the beginning of Lent. Lent is a period of 40 plus days, when Christians prepare for Easter with spiritual discipline, and show repentance to their god.
"It's a very reminder of our sins, how we can repent to the lord and start new," says Beth Rishel of Saint Mary's Catholic Church.
Church services in our area are continuing through out the day into Wednesday evening.
