WASHINGTON D.C.- U.S. Senator Joe Manchin emphasized the importance of reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act Thursday.

Senator Manchin, a co-sponsor of the bill, says the law has reduced domestic violence by more than 50 percent through the critical programs it funds.

Last April, the bill passed in the Senate but stalled in the House of Representatives for the first time.

Senator Manchin says passing this bill will greatly help survivors of domestic abuse.

"You can only imagine the toll its taken on the families, on those who've had violence committed against them. But, also what it does economically," says Senator Manchin.

Senator Manchin says he's confident the bill will pass Thursday night in the Senate and go on to the House.
