FREDERICK, MD - Frederick City Police say they have identified a suspect in connection to the armed robbery at a local jewelry store Tuesday afternoon. 

Police arrested Alonzo Meadows, of Fairfax, Va., Wednesday morning while driving in a black pickup truck. Meadows is currently being held at the Metropolitan Police Department on a fugitive warrant for his involvement in the armed robbery of Colonial Jewelers.   

Police say the pickup truck was taken back to Frederick where it is being processed for evidence. 

The robbery happened around 1:45 p.m. at Colonial Jewelers at the intersection of Patrick and Market Street.

Police say three males walked into the jewelry store with at least one the suspects displaying a handgun and ordered all the employees and customers to lie on the ground. The suspects then smashed one pane of glass in a display case containing expensive watches.

Police say after removing numerous watches, one of the suspects sprayed a liquid substance, believing to be pepper spray, into the air.

"During the course of the robbery, after they committed the offense, they actually sprayed what we believe to be pepper spray inside the store and then left. The employees were exposed to the pepper spray," says Lt. Clark Pennington, spokesman with the Frederick City Police Department.

The three suspects are described as black males, wearing masks. Police say they took an undisclosed amount of jewelry.

"We're still early in this investigation. We're receiving a lot of information," Pennington says. "The cooperation from the citizens right now is outstanding. They're coming forward, giving us as much information as they can recall, and we're following up on every lead that they're providing."

Police say 10 people were treated for their injuries. 

Police say the investigation is continuing into the identity of the other two suspects. They say they are currently not releasing any photos of the suspect at this point, due to tainting the investigation.
