Jefferson County One Step Closer to New Sheriff

JEFFERSON COUNTY,WV- In Jefferson County, commissioners are one step closer to having a new Sheriff.

The Attorney General's Office told county officials Monday that Chief Jones, the current manager of the department, cannot hold the position of the Sheriff.

They've also ruled out the possibility of having a special election.

County officials will meet Thursday morning to discuss the details of how they will appoint the new Sheriff.

Comments

I can't believe that the Attorney General's Office is going to allow the County Commission to appoint a new Sheriff. First, it is an elected position. They should not have allowed Robert Shirley to run for Sheriff while he was under federal indictment. They knew well what he has always been like and how much money he has already cost the county. Second, if it is an elected position then that is how it should be filled. Why should they get to put someone in there. After they advise with the ex-Sheriff and have his input is the county really going to be any better off then it was.
