Police Release Victim's Identity in Frederick County Fatal Accident

It happened around 6:30 a.m. by the intersection of Route 26 and Albaugh Road just outside of Libertytown.
Police say 24-year old Stephen Joseph Hardesty Jr., of Sykesville, Md., was traveling east on Route 26 when he crossed the median for unknown reasons and struck a vehicle head-on driven by Paul Joseph Klausmeyer, 49, of Woodbine, Md.
Klausmeyer was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical personnel.
Police say Hardesty Jr. was transported to Shock Trauma, where he was in serious but stable condition.
Police say the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 26 near Albaugh Road were closed on Tuesday for about three and a half hours as a result of the collision.
Maryland State Police say they are still investigating this accident.
