Police say of the 27 reported incidents, many of them are burglaries.
"We had a series of about two dozen burglaries and thefts in the last three months, now that includes into Brunswick and Middletown Valley," say Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins.
Sheriff Chuck Jenkins says the best way the community can protect themselves is by setting up a security system, including cameras.
"The data presented this evening was a little disturbing, if you will, the flip side it, is the Sheriff seems to be on top of this," says Brunswick resident Richard Foot.
The Sheriff's Office says because Burkittsville is so close to Route 340 the community is a target.
"Burglars travel on the highway, the corridor 340, from West Virginia into Maryland and back. They hit quick over here in Frederick County and make their way out of state," says Sheriff Jenkins.
He encourages anyone who notices anything suspicious, to report it to the Sheriff's Office by calling (301) 600-2162.
