FREDERICK, MD - People can use a high-tech app at one local grocery store chain.

Wegmans customers can use the app on their Android and Smartphones. The app will soon be available on Kindle Fire and the Barnes and Noble Nook.

It allows you to scan items in your pantry and then add them to your shopping list. You'll also receive recalls on your phone.

You can browse recipes, check nutrition information, and rate products on the app.

"The key features of the app are you're able to review our recipes online, add the ingredients to your shopping list if you'd like, and you can then go ahead and e-mail that shopping list to a friend or to a family member to pick that up or to show off what you're finding," says Clayton Brown, front end manager at the Frederick Wegmans.

Those at Wegmans hope it helps customers zip through the store.

"We're hoping this app is going to make the shopping experience much faster and much more enjoyable," Brown says. "When they put the shopping list together, it's going to organize it by aisles within our store so that when they come in, it's going to take them in a routed plan so they can get out of here much faster."
