FREDERICK, MD-During the 1960's, Lord Dunmore Nickens was a major civil rights movement figure in the city of Frederick.  Unfortunately, Nickens recently passed away on January 4th, 2013 at the age of 99 from pneumonia and kidney failure.
On Saturday, family members and friends said their final "goodbyes."   More than 500 people came to the International Community Church of God in Frederick to pay their final respects.  During the civil rights movement era, Nickens stood up to the Ku Klux Klan, after receiving death threats.  He also led the integration of Frederick High School along with many other public accommodations in Frederick.  Loved ones say they'll miss the man who stood up for justice.
"I'm just trying to take it all in right now, it has not really set in.  Its' tough, it's really tough, he been there through out my whole life.  He taught me everything," says Gregory Nickens, Son of Lord Dunmore Nickens.
Nickens leaves behind a wife, three sons, along with many grandchildren to great great grand children.  He was buried at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
