The Washington County Sheriff's Office says, historically, shoplifting is at an all time high this time of year.
They say it can be due to the larger crowds, the pressure to buy gifts for Christmas and the poor economy.
A recent report also indicates American retailers will lose nearly $9 billion over the holiday season.
"If they don't know that it's in there, they don't know that they want to steal it from you so we really want to stress the people that they're locking their doors, they're not leaving their keys in their vehicle, and they're making sure that they're concealing their items within it that are of value," says Deputy Carly Hose, Washington County Sheriff's Department.
The Sheriff's Office says to be mindful of your purchases this holiday season and to report any suspicious activity.
