FREDERICK, MD - Frederick City Police expect to file more charges in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy.

They've arrested 17-year-old Dylan Gray and charged him as an adult. He faces four charges including first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, handgun on person, and use of a handgun in commission of a violent crime.

"Mr. Gray was arrested. He was processed through the Frederick County Adult Detention Center as an adult, even though he's a 17-year-old male. Based on the charges and the seriousness of them, he was actually waved to adult status," says Lt. Clark Pennington, spokesman for the Frederick City Police Department.

Police responded to a home along the 400 block of Hillcrest Drive just before 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. They found the victim shot once in the chest. He was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma, where he is listed in stable condition.

Pennington says the shooting was not a random event.

"This investigation involved two individuals that were known to each other. They were either friends in the past, or they had some type of friendship relationship," Pennington says. "This is not stranger-on-stranger violence."

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

"We're asking the public who might have been in the area that if they have seen anything suspicious or out of the ordinary to give us a call," Pennington says. "This, just like any other case that happens in their neighborhood, we're asking the residents to be involved."

Anyone with information is asked to call Frederick City Police at 301-600-TIPS.
