The new library is located at the intersection of South Potomac and Antietam Street. Construction is winding down and city council members say they're excited.
'It's absolutely beautiful. Anybody from the outside can see it's a beautiful brick structure. The outstanding feature on the inside is not only double the size of the old library," says City Council member Lewis Metzner.
The new library is expected to look spectacular on the inside and out, but has anyone considered what the view is when you look out the window?
"Lots of views that are distressing...windows are broken out of the buildings. It gets very disconcerning, that's the bad news," says Metzner.
While the development of the library continues, one of the surrounding buildings is already getting fixed up.
According to officials with Washington County, the notion of using the Massey building space for educational purposes is a strong possibility.
"We welcome any non-profit that would want to partner with the county and make that into a showcase for kids coming out of the library. Maybe a discovery station location. Maybe a planetarium station location," says Washington County Commissioner Ruth Anne Callaham.
Some ideas that commissioners say are a good possibility for the future.
