HAGERSTOWN, MD - Hagerstown city council members toured the new Washington County Free Library on Tuesday for the first time.

Officials showed former council members the new facility and thanked them for their contributions and support over the years.

"Too bad it's not done and open already, that would be my wish," says David Hanlin, Development Coordinator at Washington County Free Library. "It is beautiful, it does everything we hoped it'd do."

Hanlin says the library will greatly benefit the city.

"This building captures our communities aspirations for education, for knowledge, and when we get fully operational it will serve as a platform for civic dialogue and a sense of community," says Hanlin.

Library officials say if construction goes as planned, the new library will open in May. They say from there, it could take up to eight weeks for everything to be moved in and ready.
